Everyone has to start somewhere. Today we were inspired by Ron Meyer’s story. Ron Meyer was born to Jewish immigrant parents who escaped Nazi Germany. At fifteen Ron dropped out of high school, and at the age of seventeen he joined the United States Marine Corps. He worked for years at the William Morris Agency and had a great mentor who enabled him to gain the ability to move on from the firm and start his own company. He and a few of his buddies went on to create the Creative Artists Agency.
CAA is one of the biggest and most powerful talent agencies in the world. Mr. Meyer talked about the reality of the recession on the movie industry and how changing technologies have affected the entire business model.
For the past fourteen years, Mr. Meyer has been the President and COO of Universal Studios. He is the longest serving chief of a major motion picture company in the history of Hollywood. We found it interesting how Universal is planning on developing a large portion of their land on the Universal Studios site. He said that it would probably take 20 years to develop.
We also had the pleasure to meet David Blitz of Nebo Capital, Stefania Seo of LBL Architecture & Interiors, Brian Eisendrath of CBRE Melody & Company, Eddie Van Pelt of Allenwood Property Management Inc, Danielle Kirk of DK, Judee Heinman of Old Republic Title Company, Susan Bender of NAI Capital, and Michael Jacoby of Valleycrest.
We are already eager to attend our next Moriah Society meeting.
